President William Ruto has issued a passionate rallying call to Kenya’s U20 men’s national football team. Additionally, urging them to defy the odds and bring pride to the nation by reaching the finals of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U20 tournament. In a heartfelt send-off at State House on April 15, 2025, Ruto challenged the young Rising Stars (Kenya U20) to give their best . This is by represent the country with honor and determination.

“You have the opportunity to change the story of Kenyan football,” said the President. This is as he was handing over the national flag to the team ahead of their trip to the tournament. “Msiniangushe! Don’t let me down,” he emphasized, invoking a mix of encouragement and high expectations from a hopeful nation.

Kenya U20 in Tough AFCON Group

The Rising Stars have been drawn into a tough group commonly referred to as the “Group of Death.” They will play alongside traditional football powerhouses Morocco, Tunisia, and Nigeria. Despite the formidable challenge, the team remains undeterred. Head coach Salim Babu and assistant team captain Baron Ochieng have expressed confidence in their preparation. This is with a focus on discipline, unity, and tactical execution.

“We respect our opponents, but we do not fear them,” said Ochieng in a post-flagging-off interview. “We are going there to compete, not just to participate.”
