NPS Moves to Reassure Public After Viral Gang Attacks
The National Police Service has responded to rising insecurity concerns nationwide.
In recent days, viral videos triggered fear and intense public debate.
As a result, Inspector-General Douglas Kanja ordered a faster police response. He immediately directed officers to prioritize urgent service delivery.
Specifically, the incidents occurred in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Siaya counties. In each case, CCTV footage captured armed gang activity.
Accordingly, NPS confirmed that investigations are progressing in all regions. Officials also promised regular public updates.
Arrests Made in Mombasa and Kilifi
In Mombasa’s Tononoka area, police arrested two suspects. The arrests followed a violent January 28 daylight attack. During the incident, young men armed with crude weapons assaulted a guard.
Subsequently, officers recovered knives and a machete. However, detectives continue searching for a third suspect.
Meanwhile, the arrested individuals have appeared in court.
Similarly, police acted swiftly in Mtwapa, Kilifi County. There, a gang attacked a shop owner using machetes. Shortly afterward, investigators arrested three key suspects.
They also recovered 49 mobile phones and electronics. Additionally, officers seized gas cylinders and crude weapons. Currently, all suspects are assisting with inquiries.
Breakthrough Reported in Siaya Investigation
Elsewhere, a separate attack shocked Bondo residents in Siaya County. CCTV footage showed armed men storming a shop. Notably, one suspect carried what appeared to be an AK-47 rifle. Consequently, the video sparked outrage and speculation online.
Nevertheless, NPS rejected claims of internal involvement. Instead, detectives reported a major investigative breakthrough. Furthermore, authorities promised updates as the probe continues. Specialized teams are now leading the operation.
Police Urge Public Cooperation
Importantly, NPS emphasized zero tolerance for organized crime. Officials therefore warned gangs of firm legal action.
At the same time, police praised community cooperation. Public tips have supported ongoing investigations. For that reason, citizens should report suspicious activity immediately.
Hotlines 999, 911, and 112 remain active nationwide.
In addition, anonymous reports are accepted through DCI channels. Police reaffirmed their duty to protect lives and property.
Ultimately, authorities urged unity in fighting insecurity. They stressed that effective policing requires public partnership.
