Kabianga Student Treks 176km Alone to Preach Peace
A university student is doing something extraordinary for his region. Specifically, Cosmas Pchumba Chumba, a third-year student at Kabianga University, has initiated an ambitious peace trek across the North Rift region. Furthermore, his mission aims to cultivate unity, harmony and peaceful coexistence among historically clashing communities.
The Route He’s Walking
His journey covers some of the most volatile terrain in the region. Specifically, the walk starts at Makutano and Kapenguria in West Pokot before cutting deep into the Kerio Valley.
Furthermore, his path includes Sigor, Chesegon, Tot, Kolowa, Loruk and Marigat. Additionally, he climbs through Kabarnet and Iten before concluding his journey in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
Why He’s Doing This
Cosmas has a clear and urgent mission. Specifically, he is preaching peace directly to local residents, targeting the Pokot, Tugen, Turkana, Ilchamus and Samburu communities.
