Burial Date Set for Former Kilgoris MP Gideon Konchellah

Kenya has confirmed final arrangements for the late former Kilgoris MP and Cabinet Minister, Gideon Sitelu Konchellah. Specifically, the family will hold his burial on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at his Olalui residence in Kilgoris, Narok County.

The Full Funeral Programme

The family has structured the send-off across multiple days. Specifically, mourners will hold a requiem mass on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Nairobi Baptist Church on Ngong Road, starting at 10:00 AM, where they can pay their last respects.

Furthermore, the family will airlift his body, currently preserved at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi, to Olalui on Friday, June 19, for a prayer service ahead of interment. Therefore, the burial service will take place on Saturday, June 20, at his Olalui home.


How He Passed Away

Illness claimed Konchellah’s life after a prolonged battle. Specifically, he passed away at age 74 on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 4:00 AM, after suffering cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Furthermore, he had battled ill health since November 2025, and doctors admitted him to hospital on May 30 after he developed an infection.

A Distinguished Military and Political Career

Konchellah built a legacy spanning both military and political service. Specifically, he served in the Kenya Armed Forces for over three decades between 1979 and 2002, rising to commander of the Kenya Army Ordnance Corps in Kahawa.

Furthermore, he represented Kilgoris Constituency as MP for nearly 20 years and served as Minister for Immigration and Registration of Persons between 2006 and 2007 under President Mwai Kibaki.

A Unifier Remembered

Konchellah left a lasting community impact beyond his official roles. Specifically, President William Ruto and other national leaders have celebrated him as a vital unifier who championed peace and cohesion among the Maasai, Kipsigis and Kisii communities in the Trans Mara region.
