Former MP Gideon Konchellah Dies at 75

Former Kilgoris Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister Gideon Sitelu Konchellah has died at the age of 75. He passed away on June 13, 2026, at around 4:00 AM at Nairobi Hospital.

Medical sources and family members confirmed that he died after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. The news has sparked widespread condolences from leaders and residents across Narok County and beyond.


Final Moments at Nairobi Hospital

Konchellah had been receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital following a period of illness. However, his condition worsened, leading to cardiac arrest in the early hours of the morning.

As a result, medical teams were unable to revive him.His family later confirmed the tragic loss.

Long Political Career Spanning Decades

Konchellah served as the Member of Parliament for Kilgoris Constituency in Narok County. His parliamentary career lasted nearly two decades, from 2003 to 2022. During this time, he played a key role in regional politics and development.

He also held various political affiliations, including the Party of National Unity (PNU), the United Republican Party (URP), and later the Jubilee Party.

Beyond Parliament, Konchellah also served in the Cabinet. He was appointed Minister for Immigration and Registration of Persons between 2006 and 2007 under former President ⁠Mwai Kibaki.

During his tenure, he oversaw key policy work, including the implementation of the Refugee Act of 2006. His role in government positioned him as an influential figure in national administration at the time.

Following news of his passing, leaders across the country have expressed condolences. Current Kilgoris MP ⁠Julius Sunkuli and other political figures described him as a dedicated public servant.
