EACC Recovers KSh 250 Million From Senior Nairobi County Official
On June 4, 2026, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission intensified its war against corruption by targeting a senior Nairobi County official.
EACC detectives raided the Syokimau residence and vehicle of Patrick Analo Akivaga, Nairobi City County’s Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning.
During the operation, detectives uncovered KSh 250 million in cash and seized several documents linked to the ongoing probe.
The agency launched the raid as part of investigations into alleged unexplained wealth, abuse of office, and suspicious financial dealings.
Detectives Discover Millions Hidden in Briefcases
EACC officers searched the property and discovered KSh 250 million packed inside briefcases. They also collected financial records, official documents, and electronic evidence for forensic analysis.
Although early reports suggested a larger amount, detectives physically counted KSh 65.3 million at the scene. Consequently, investigators have made the recovered cash a central focus of the case.
The agency believes the money could be linked to questionable financial transactions and unexplained wealth.

Investigators Trace KSh 170 Million in Suspected Transactions
EACC detectives are examining claims that the county official received more than KSh 170 million through suspicious transactions. Investigators allege the transactions occurred between 2020 and 2026.
Consequently, they are reviewing bank statements, mobile money records, and other financial documents.
The agency aims to establish the source of the funds and determine whether the transactions complied with the law. Additionally, investigators want to establish whether public resources were diverted for personal benefit.
EACC Arrests Suspect and Records Statement
After completing the raid, EACC officers arrested Akivaga and escorted him to the Integrity Centre. Investigators immediately began recording statements and processing evidence gathered during the operation.
The agency expects the interrogation to provide critical information about the source of the recovered funds. Consequently, detectives may widen the investigation to include additional assets and financial networks.
Nairobi County Faces Fresh Corruption Scrutiny
The latest operation places Nairobi County under renewed anti-corruption scrutiny. Additionally, EACC continues targeting public officials suspected of accumulating wealth through illegal means.
Recent investigations have resulted in asset recoveries, property freezes, and court actions. Consequently, anti-graft agencies are increasing pressure on officials suspected of misusing public resources.
EACC has reaffirmed its commitment to tracing illicit wealth and recovering assets acquired through corruption. As investigations continue, the agency plans to pursue further legal action against anyone found culpable.
