High Court Freezes Kiambu Governor Wamatangi’s Bank Accounts

The High Court has frozen Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s bank accounts over graft allegations.
The ruling is another significant blow to the county boss, who has faced growing scrutiny over his finances.
The move comes amid ongoing efforts by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to recover misappropriated funds.

Court Issues Orders Over Ksh813 Million Case

Justice Benjamin Mwikya issued the preservation orders on Thursday, January 15, following a civil recovery case filed by the EACC.
The case involves Ksh813 million, which the commission claims was misappropriated.
Consequently, Wamatangi and all listed parties are barred from accessing the funds until further court directions.
The court stressed that these measures aim to protect public resources while legal proceedings continue.

Family and Associates Also Affected

The orders extend beyond Governor Wamatangi to include his wife, children, and ten other individuals.
Justice Mwikya emphasized that all named parties must preserve the funds and refrain from withdrawing or transferring them.
This ensures the assets remain intact until the case is fully determined.
Observers say such broad preservation orders are designed to prevent any attempt to hide or move funds during the recovery process.

Next Court Mention Set for February 4

The High Court set the next mention of the case for Wednesday, February 4, to consider further proceedings.
“In my mind, the preservation orders were not in force when this matter appeared before the trial judge,” Justice Mwikya noted.
He added that, had the orders existed earlier, the court would have addressed the merits of the application filed on November 4, 2025.
Legal experts say the case underscores the judiciary’s commitment to enforcing accountability for public officials.
