ORPP Denies Wiper Party Dissolution Claims

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has dismissed viral reports claiming Wiper Democratic Movement’s self-dissolution.
The denial comes after a fake letter circulated on social media alleging party closure.

Fake Letter Sparks Confusion

The fraudulent document claimed that Wiper’s National Executive Committee resolved to dissolve the party.
It falsely stated the decision was forwarded to ORPP for approval.
Consequently, many members and citizens were misled by the fake communication.

ORPP Clarifies the Situation

In a brief statement on Thursday, January 15, the ORPP distanced itself from the claims, confirming the letter was not authentic.
The registrar flagged the document as fake and cautioned Kenyans against misinformation.
“Seek accurate information through ORPPKenya official channels or ORPP offices,” the statement urged.

Legal Procedures for Party Dissolution

ORPP reiterated that party registration, deregistration, or dissolution must follow legal procedures.
A party may be dissolved if it violates the Political Parties Act or its constitution.
Failure to participate in elections for a set period may also trigger dissolution.

Kalonzo Rejects Joining Kenya Kwanza

Some pro-government politicians urged Kalonzo Musyoka to fold Wiper and join President William Ruto’s camp.
However, Kalonzo repeatedly rejected these calls, emphasizing his commitment to the opposition.
He maintains that Wiper will remain independent ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Presidential Ambitions and Criticism

To quell speculation, Kalonzo announced his 2027 presidential bid in October last year.
His decision aims to challenge Ruto, whom he seeks to limit to a single term.
The government has criticized his candidacy, with Ruto asking him to account for 40 years in public service.
