IEBC Confirms August 10, 2027 General Election Date

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially announced that Kenya will hold its next General Election on Tuesday, August 10, 2027, setting the stage for a crucial national vote that will determine the country’s next leadership.

At the launch of the Election Operations Plan (EOP) 2025–2027 and the IEBC Strategic Plan 2024–2029. Commissioner Ann Nderitu presented a detailed roadmap highlighting major electoral milestones and timelines leading to the 2027 General Election.


Campaign Period to Run for 71 Days

According to the commission, the official campaign period will begin on May 29, 2027, and end on August 7, 2027. The timeline ensures compliance with electoral laws requiring all campaigns to cease at least 48 hours before voting day.

Key Dates Ahead of the 2027 Polls

The roadmap outlines several critical milestones that political parties, candidates, and voters must observe:

  • February 9, 2027 – Deadline for public officers seeking elective positions to resign.
  • May 9, 2027 – Final day for political party primaries and submission of independent candidates.
  • May 29 to June 11, 2027 – Official nomination period for all candidates.
  • June 12, 2027 – Closure of voter registration nationwide.

IEBC Releases Election Roadmap

The commission stated that the Election Operations Plan will guide preparations for voter registration, nominations, campaign management, polling logistics, and results transmission.

The roadmap is expected to provide certainty to political parties, aspirants, development partners, and voters as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.

With just over a year remaining before Kenyans head to the ballot, attention is now shifting to voter registration, party realignments, coalition building. However, the race to secure nominations ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive General Election.
