Mosiria Forces Pedestrians to Use Nyayo Stadium Footbridge
Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria led a crackdown on pedestrians crossing Mombasa Road outside the designated footbridge near Nyayo Stadium.
During the operation, Mosiria stopped several commuters from crossing the busy highway and directed them to use the nearby footbridge. The exercise aimed to improve road safety and reduce preventable accidents.
Mosiria Warns Against Dangerous Road Crossing
Mosiria confronted pedestrians attempting to dash across the highway despite the presence of a footbridge. Some commuters were carrying children, while others were using mobile phones as they crossed.
He instructed them to turn back and cross safely using the pedestrian bridge. According to Mosiria, the campaign seeks to protect both pedestrians and motorists.
Rising Road Deaths Raise Concern
Authorities say roads such as Mombasa Road and Thika Superhighway continue to record numerous pedestrian fatalities. Many of the accidents occur after people ignore footbridges and attempt to cross busy roads.
Mosiria warned that such actions also endanger drivers. Sudden braking or swerving to avoid pedestrians can easily cause serious multi-vehicle crashes.

Violators Risk Arrest
Mosiria said Nairobi County will continue working with the National Police Service to enforce traffic regulations. He warned that officers will arrest and prosecute pedestrians who ignore designated crossing points.
Those found violating the law could face charges under the Traffic Act and the Nairobi City County Public Nuisance Act.
Public Raises Safety Concerns
While many Kenyans welcomed the enforcement, others highlighted challenges affecting some footbridges. Some commuters cited poor lighting, insecurity, and muggings around pedestrian bridges. Others complained about congestion caused by hawkers operating on the structures.
Despite those concerns, many agreed that improving footbridge safety and encouraging their use remain essential in reducing road accidents across Nairobi. County officials have urged residents to prioritize their safety by using designated pedestrian crossings at all times.
