Pauline Sheghu: From Carjacking Survivor to Rally Star
Kenyan rally driver Pauline Sheghu says her motorsport journey began after a terrifying life experience. Today, she stands among the most determined drivers in Kenyan rally racing.
However, her path into motorsport started during a dangerous carjacking incident. Rather than break her spirit, the event pushed her toward professional rally driving. Consequently, she transformed fear into motivation on the racing track.
Terrifying Carjacking That Changed Her Life
The incident occurred while Sheghu was pregnant with her child. During the carjacking, attackers forced her to drive at extremely high speeds.
She had to drive aggressively to save both her life and her unborn baby. While escaping, she approached the KMC Roundabout. Unfortunately, she misjudged a sharp turn during the high-speed chase.
The car rolled over during the dangerous maneuver. Despite the terrifying crash, Sheghu survived the ordeal.
Instead of discouraging her, the experience strengthened her driving instincts. Eventually, she realized she had the courage required for competitive rally driving.
Partnership With Navigator Linet Ayuko
Sheghu competes alongside her trusted navigator Linet Ayuko. Together, they form one of Kenya’s most recognized all-female rally teams.
Fans proudly call the duo the “Queens of the Dust.”
Ayuko brings more than a decade of motorsport experience to the team. Interestingly, she entered motorsport to overcome her fear of speed.
