Security footage captures an armed robbery targeting a pedestrian in Nairobi’s Fedha Estate.
Security footage captures two men confronting a pedestrian around midnight, prompting calls for action over Nairobi robberies.
A Fedha Estate robbery captured on security camera footage shows two armed men attacking a lone pedestrian around midnight. The attackers arrived on a motorcycle with a third man in the Nairobi neighbourhood.
Two men dismounted and cornered the pedestrian near an establishment before robbing the victim at gunpoint. One suspect appeared to carry a gun, while the other held a large machete.
Fedha Estate robbery sparks security concerns
The footage has prompted angry reactions on social media, where users questioned safety in residential areas after dark. Some also called for authorities to act against armed robbers.
On X, a user identified as Timmy expressed concern about walking at night and suspects carrying guns. Meanwhile, another user, Farida, tagged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and urged it to take action.
The attack comes amid concerns about other robberies targeting businesses and their customers in Nairobi. These include a daytime armed raid at a hair studio in Saika, Kasarani, in July.
Earlier raids targeted businesses and customers
Security footage from the Saika robbery showed two armed men entering the busy hair studio and threatening those inside. One briefly greeted workers and customers before drawing a handgun and ordering everyone to stay silent.
His accomplice, who wore a helmet, stood at the entrance and blocked the exit. The robbers then threatened violence as victims handed over mobile phones and other belongings.
However, one woman managed to escape through the front entrance during the raid. The other victims stayed inside until the suspects fled, then locked the doors and screamed for help.
The Saika raid also followed reports of similar attacks at a beauty parlour in Ruaka and a restaurant in Westlands. Those incidents added to public concerns about the safety of businesses and their customers.
Social media users have since called for stronger security measures and action against armed robbery gangs operating in Nairobi.
