The 2026 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon brought together 30,700 participants, with county officials joining the flag-off and awards ceremonies. Runners took to Nairobi’s streets on October 25 to compete, promote wellness and raise funds for community initiatives.

City Hall leaders also used the event to reaffirm their commitment to sports development and economic growth. Their remarks focused on infrastructure, local business opportunities and the benefits of wider participation in sport.

Meanwhile, Anastasia Nyalita, the county executive for Business Hustler and Opportunities, honoured the top finishers in both 10km races. The two officials highlighted the event’s significance beyond the competition itself.

County highlights business and health benefits

Auma said major sporting events help boost local commerce and raise Nairobi’s international profile. He also described the marathon as a demonstration of the city’s capacity to host global sporting competitions.

To support those ambitions, he reaffirmed the county’s commitment to investing in infrastructure for athletics and sports tourism. He linked those investments to the broader goal of sustainable economic growth.

Nyalita, meanwhile, focused on the marathon’s social value, pointing to participation by young people, experienced athletes and families. She said sport can strengthen unity, improve health and empower communities.

She also linked the turnout to the county’s vision of an inclusive city where residents can participate and thrive. Beyond individual events, Nyalita said the county remained committed to partnerships that support lasting infrastructure and sports tourism.

Those partnerships, she added, should also help build healthier and more resilient communities.
