Trump Moves to Halt Immigration From Third-World Nations

US President Donald Trump has announced a plan to freeze immigration from third-world nations. The move could affect several African countries.

Trump made the declaration on Friday, November 28. He linked rising immigration to what he described as social and economic problems facing Americans. He also argued that the US must stop what he called unnecessary travel from underdeveloped nations.

“I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover and terminate all of the millions of Biden admissions,” Trump said.

He added that he would remove anyone he considers “not a net asset” to the US. He also vowed to end federal benefits and subsidies for noncitizens.

Impact on Kenya Still Unclear

Africa has the largest number of countries classified as underdeveloped or developing. In East Africa, Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Somalia fall into that group.

Kenya is considered a developing nation with stronger economic potential. Therefore, it is not listed as a low-income country. However, it remains unclear whether Trump’s freeze would apply to Kenya.

Trump’s proposals are not yet law. Any major immigration reform still requires approval from Congress.

Trump also attacked Somali immigrants in the US. He accused them of causing insecurity, especially in Minnesota.

He criticised Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Representative Ilhan Omar. He claimed they were responsible for what he described as rising “Somalia gangs.”

“As an example, hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia are completely taking over the once great State of Minnesota. Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for ‘prey’,” he stated.
