Musicians and fans rallied to support Kamba singer Irene Tesh.
Stephen Kasolo and Jackson Mutinda Masekete rallied musicians and fans to support Irene Tesh after she spoke about alleged restrictions during her marriage.
The Irene Tesh fundraiser raised KSh800,000 after gospel musicians Stephen Kasolo and Jackson Mutinda Masekete mobilised fellow artistes and fans. The campaign followed the Kamba singer’s account of challenges she allegedly faced during her marriage.
The two musicians led the fundraising session on TikTok Live on Sunday night, November 1. Before the event, Kasolo urged fellow musicians and their followers to make time for the appeal.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, he also asked members of the Kamba gospel music community to avoid competing livestreams. His appeal encouraged them to unite behind Tesh and support the joint effort.
Following the fundraiser, Kasolo shared another Facebook update thanking those who had taken part. He and Tesh previously collaborated on the song Kyama, which they released in 2021.
Irene Tesh fundraiser follows marriage allegations
The support campaign came days after Tesh discussed her marriage in emotional interviews with local media platforms. She alleged that her former husband restricted her involvement in church activities, including leading praise and worship.
She also claimed that the restrictions extended to attending crusades and participating in overnight prayer meetings. Beyond church activities, Tesh alleged that he prevented her from recording music in studios, limiting her gospel career.
The singer further described how the relationship affected her independence and musical ambitions. In her account, she faced expectations to put her responsibilities as a wife ahead of her music career.
