Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka

The Wiper leader accuses Ruto’s administration of harming Kenyans and rejects political negotiations ahead of the 2027 election.

Kalonzo rejects government overtures and says he would rather challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. The Wiper Party leader dismissed suggestions of a political arrangement, describing the administration as predatory.

The former Vice-President accused the government of overseeing the loss of public resources and worsening poverty. He also demanded the return of property he alleged officials had taken from Kenyans.

His remarks follow an invitation from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to join the broad-based government. Murkomen said the administration would respect Kalonzo’s leadership experience and diplomatic credentials.

Kalonzo argued that his opposition to Ruto’s policies made joining the administration unrealistic. He questioned why the government would seek his support while he continued to challenge its conduct.

He also said Ruto had publicly identified him as his main political opponent ahead of the next election. On that basis, Kalonzo questioned the logic of inviting a principal rival into government.

Instead, the Wiper leader said the two should settle their political differences through an electoral contest. He maintained his rejection of any invitation to serve in the administration.

Turning to the economy, Kalonzo claimed that more than 14 million Kenyans had fallen into extreme poverty. He cited that claim as another reason for refusing to join Ruto’s government.

Murkomen condemns heckling of Wiper leader

Meanwhile, Murkomen criticised Linda Mwananchi Movement supporters for heckling Kalonzo during the launch of its headquarters in Nairobi. He said their treatment of the former Vice-President reflected growing political intolerance.

The Interior CS spoke on Saturday at a women’s empowerment event in Ngiito, Amalo, Narok Sub-County. His comments addressed the disruption of Kalonzo’s speech during Friday’s launch.

Murkomen also accused the movement of lacking an agenda and manifesto, while showing disrespect for fellow leaders. He warned that the heckling could signal increasingly confrontational politics before the 2027 General Election.

He urged politicians across the political divide to discourage hostility among their supporters. The appeal accompanied his statement that the government was intensifying efforts against politically organised intimidation and violence.

Murkomen further said the administration had introduced measures to ensure a peaceful, free and fair election in 2027.
