Alupe University hosted the Busia public forum that intruders disrupted.
Police intervened at Alupe University after intruders halted a live forum where Busia residents were questioning county development.
Intruders disrupted a Radio Citizen event at Alupe University in Busia County on Saturday, October 31. The commotion forced presenters to halt a live broadcast as residents sought answers on county development.
Josephat Odipo and Joseph Njane, both Citizen TV presenters, were hosting the Utepeni programme. However, the disruption cut short the public engagement and prevented residents from continuing to question leaders.
Police officers later intervened at the university premises to restore order after the event ground to a halt.
The forum aimed to let residents question leaders about development, healthcare infrastructure and education. Instead, the interruption left participants unable to raise their concerns through the live platform.
Radio Citizen event halted after classroom question
The incident reportedly began after a Butula resident challenged the county government over early childhood development education classrooms. The resident asked officials to identify the schools where the county had constructed those facilities.
Rather than receiving an answer, the question allegedly sparked commotion at the venue. Reports also suggested that the intruders were hired and that the disruption had political motives.
Meanwhile, several Busia leaders and residents condemned the incident, questioning why citizens faced interference during a public forum. County leaders argued that residents should freely question their government without intimidation from organised groups.
The National Police Service has also ordered a crackdown on political goons and criminal gangs. It warned commanders that ineffective policing would attract administrative consequences.
