Nairobi Water Announces 3-Day Shutdown Across Major Estates

Nairobi residents face a three-day water supply interruption after the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) announced an emergency pipeline shutdown.

The disruption will begin at 11:59 pm on Monday, October 26, 2026, and is expected to end at 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The shutdown will affect homes, businesses and institutions across several parts of the city.

Why Nairobi Water Is Shutting Down Supply

NCWSC said the interruption will allow the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) to carry out emergency repairs on the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete pipeline.

The major transmission line supplies water to several Nairobi neighbourhoods. Consequently, the planned shutdown is expected to disrupt distribution across multiple residential and commercial areas.

Managing Director Martin Nang’ole urged customers to conserve available water while technicians complete the repairs. The company also apologised for the inconvenience caused by the interruption.

What Residents Should Do

NCWSC has advised customers in affected areas to use their stored water sparingly as repair work continues. Residents should fill suitable containers and water tanks before the shutdown begins. They should prioritise drinking, cooking, handwashing and other essential household needs.

Businesses, restaurants and institutions should also prepare for the interruption by reviewing their available water reserves and contingency arrangements.

When Will Water Supply Return?

The scheduled shutdown is expected to end late on Thursday, October 29. However, the company has not guaranteed that every affected property will receive normal supply immediately at that time.

Residents should monitor official Nairobi Water updates for any changes to the repair schedule and restoration of supply. The utility says the interruption is necessary to facilitate emergency repairs on the major transmission pipeline.

Residents in the affected neighbourhoods should prepare for the interruption and confirm updates through Nairobi City Water’s official communication channels.
