Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been endorsed as Linda Mwananchi’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
The caucus named Edwin Sifuna its presidential candidate at a Windsor retreat, with a party unveiling planned for early October as wider opposition talks continue.
The Linda Mwananchi movement has endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
The decision followed a leadership retreat held in Windsor on Saturday, September 26.
However, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka did not attend the meeting.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, also had no representative.
Linda Mwananchi subsequently named Sifuna both its leader and presidential candidate.
Party Unveiling Planned for October
The movement said Sifuna will lead the unveiling of the party on whose ticket he plans to contest the presidency.
The launch is expected to take place in early October.
Linda Mwananchi also indicated that it would pursue partnerships with parties sharing its political priorities.
The endorsement represents Linda Mwananchi’s position. It does not settle the wider opposition’s search for a joint presidential candidate.
Several opposition formations have continued discussions over a possible common political arrangement.
Kalonzo Pursues Separate Programme
Meanwhile, Kalonzo attended a church service in Bondo, Siaya County, as part of a separate programme.
He was expected to continue with a public outreach tour in the region.
The latest Windsor retreat came weeks after opposition leaders met at the same venue.
That earlier meeting brought together Kalonzo, Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua, Justin Muturi and Eugene Wamalwa.
Gachagua did not attend that meeting, although DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala represented the party.
Gachagua Has Backed Opposition Unity
Gachagua has previously said he is willing to support another opposition candidate if leaders agree on one person.
He has also said he remains open to working with Sifuna and other opposition figures.
DCP leaders have separately discussed working with Linda Mwananchi as opposition groups consider possible alliances.
Meanwhile, Sifuna and Babu Owino have faced reported disagreements over the movement’s political direction and electoral vehicle.
Sifuna Endorsement Sets Next Stage
The latest endorsement gives Sifuna a defined position within Linda Mwananchi ahead of the 2027 election.
However, the wider opposition discussions remain separate from the movement’s internal decision.
Linda Mwananchi now plans to unveil its party while pursuing talks with other political formations.
The outcome of those discussions will determine how the movement positions itself within the broader opposition landscape.
