Former Shinyalu MP Daniel Khamasi Dies at 79

Governor Confirms Death
Former Shinyalu Member of Parliament Daniel Liula Khamasi has died at the age of 79. Moreover, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa confirmed the passing in a statement on Tuesday, December 30.

Tribute from Kakamega Governor
Governor Barasa mourned Khamasi as a dedicated public servant. Additionally, he praised the former MP’s commitment to Shinyalu and Kakamega County’s development.

Parliamentary Career
Khamasi served as Shinyalu MP for 10 years before stepping down in 2007. He was first elected in 1997 under the FORD Kenya ticket.

Political Journey
In 2002, he retained his seat under the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC). However, in the 2007 General Election, he lost to Charles Lugano Lilechi of ODM.

Leadership Roles
The former lawmaker occasionally served as temporary deputy speaker in the National Assembly. Consequently, his parliamentary tenure was marked by active participation in legislative duties.

Governor’s Condolences
Barasa conveyed heartfelt condolences to Khamasi’s family, friends, and Shinyalu residents. Furthermore, he emphasized that Khamasi’s legacy would remain in Kakamega’s history.

Recent Losses in Leadership
Khamasi’s death comes just two days after another tragedy. Porro Ward MCA Patrick Lerte passed away at Maralal Referral Hospital on December 28.

MCA’s Passing Confirmed
Samburu Assembly Clerk Fred Lenapeer confirmed Lerte’s death. Preliminary reports indicated the MCA had been ill and receiving treatment before succumbing.

Khamasi’s passing marks the end of a significant political chapter in Shinyalu. Ultimately, his contributions to Kakamega County and Kenya’s Parliament will be remembered with respect.
