Kenyan Haiti Peacekeepers Earn Hero’s Welcome at Jamhuri Day

Kenyan police officers who served in the Haiti Peacekeeping Mission received a hero’s welcome during the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on Friday.

The team formed the first Kenyan contingent under the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti. They landed back home on December 9, 2025, after 18 months in the Caribbean nation.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen hosted them for a reception and breakfast at the AP Training College in Embakasi on December 10.

During the national fete, leaders praised the officers for reclaiming key infrastructure from armed gangs in Haiti. They secured the national airport, schools, medical centres, and other critical areas.

Officials also honoured three officers who died during the mission.

As the team returned, another group of 230 Kenya Police officers flew to Haiti on December 8 to continue the mission.

At Kasarani, crowds cheered loudly as the Haiti mission officers marched across the stadium. GSU officers led the procession while Border Patrol units followed.

The officers carried three flags: the green police flag, the Kenya Police Service flag, and the Administration Police Service flag.

President William Ruto stood to applaud them as they passed the presidential dais. The officers saluted him, drawing more cheers from the crowd.
