Kirinyaga: Woman Hunted After Lover Killed in Christmas Day Bar Dispute
Police in Kirinyaga County have launched a manhunt for a 40-year-old woman accused of killing her lover during a dispute at Muragara Shopping Centre in Ndia Sub-County on Christmas Day.
The victim, 52-year-old Peter Mwangi Wanyeki, reportedly got into a heated argument with the suspect, identified as Edith Muthoni, while drinking at a local bar.
Dispute Over Ksh60 Turns Deadly
Eyewitnesses said the quarrel started over a Ksh60 alcohol bill. The disagreement quickly escalated, ending with the woman allegedly stabbing Wanyeki in the chest.
He died on the spot.
A witness, Florence Mureithi, told police that the suspect grabbed a knife that had been used for food preparation during Christmas celebrations.
“I was using the knife to cut potatoes when she suddenly picked it up,” Mureithi said.
Family Receives Tragic Christmas News
The killing left Wanyeki’s family devastated, as they were celebrating Christmas at their rural home when they received the shocking news.
“We were together enjoying Christmas when I got a call saying my brother had been killed,” said his brother, Robert Wanyeki. “I knew the woman. She comes from Kandegwa village, not far from here.”
Another relative, Kaburu Gatimu, said he arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and found Wanyeki lying in a pool of blood.
“We want justice. There was no reason for her to kill him,” he said.

Kirinyaga Police Launch Manhunt
Kirinyaga West Sub-County Police Commander Jos Mudavadi confirmed the incident and said the suspect fled the scene immediately after the stabbing.
“Detectives are on the ground following leads, and we urge members of the public to share any information that could help in her arrest,” Mudavadi said.
Police have moved the body to a local mortuary as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing continue.
