Kenyan referee Peter Waweru Kamaku, a lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), will officiate at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 on Friday, December 26.
Kamaku will take charge of the Group A match between Angola and Zimbabwe, set for 3:30pm at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.
Kenyan Officials Named
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) selected Kamaku among three Kenyan referees for the fixture. He will serve as the centre referee.
Meanwhile, Gilbert Cheruiyot will act as the first assistant referee, while Stephen Yiembe will serve as the second assistant referee. In addition, Morocco’s Mustapha Kechchaf will take up fourth official duties.

VAR Appointments
CAF also named officials for video review duties. Hamza El Fariq of Morocco will oversee VAR operations. Abdulaziz Yasir of Sudan will serve as the Assistant VAR official.
Kamaku’s AFCON Journey

This marks his second AFCON appearance. In 2019, CAF selected him to officiate the Group D match between Namibia and Ivory Coast.
Later, at AFCON 2023, Kamaku earned another call-up. He officiated the group-stage clash between Morocco and DR Congo.
AFCON 2025 in Progress
AFCON 2025 kicked off on Sunday, December 21, marking the 35th edition of the tournament.
The competition features 24 national teams. It will run until January 18, 2026.
Matches are taking place in Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, and Fez.
