Other Roads Facing Closure
Several major roads within Nairobi will also experience restrictions. Consequently, motorists should avoid the central business district where possible.
Uhuru Highway will close in both directions between Lusaka Roundabout and Museum Hill. Additionally, authorities will restrict sections of Waiyaki Way near the Expressway entrance.
Kenyatta Avenue will also remain inaccessible between Panafric Hotel and Moi Avenue. Furthermore, City Hall Way, University Way, Harambee Avenue, Haile Selassie Avenue, and Simba Street will close temporarily. These restrictions will remain in place until race activities end.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
Authorities have recommended several alternative routes. Motorists heading towards Westlands can use James Gichuru Road and Muthangari Road.
Additionally, Ring Road Kilimani and Lang’ata Road remain viable options. Drivers traveling between Thika Road and Mombasa Road should consider Juja Road and Outer Ring Road.
Furthermore, the wider Nairobi Ring Road network may help reduce congestion. Those heading to JKIA should use available sections of Mombasa Road and Southern Bypass links.
Plan Ahead to Avoid Delays
Authorities encourage motorists to leave early and avoid marathon routes. Consequently, proper planning will help minimize inconvenience.
Additionally, public transport users should expect temporary adjustments along affected corridors. The Nairobi City Marathon continues to grow as one of Kenya’s leading sporting events.
Therefore, cooperation from road users remains essential for a successful and safe marathon weekend.
