Oketch Salah Pledges Youth Empowerment in 2026
Financial Support for Jacaranda Youths
Oketch Salah, adopted son of Raila Odinga, pledged financial support to 10 Jacaranda Bunge la Wananchi youths. Moreover, the initiative will roll out in 2026 as part of an empowerment programme.
Details of the Empowerment Programme
Oketch announced the programme will benefit five men and five women. Additionally, each youth will receive Ksh50,000 to start their own businesses.
Tools for Economic Growth
Besides financial aid, men will receive motorcycles. Meanwhile, women will gain hairdressing equipment to boost their entrepreneurial ventures.
Unlocking Youth Potential
Oketch affirmed the programme will unlock leadership and economic potential. Furthermore, he emphasized that empowering youths strengthens expertise and business growth.
Gift to Jacaranda Members
During the engagement, Oketch presented a Ksh1M New Year gift hamper. Consequently, members welcomed his commitment to grassroots empowerment.
Role of Bunge la Wananchi
Bunge la Wananchi members act as grassroots activists. They hold forums to debate governance, accountability, and social justice issues.
Link to Raila Odinga’s Vision
Oketch’s pledge mirrors Raila Odinga’s 2022 campaign promise. Odinga had proposed a social protection programme offering households Ksh6,000 monthly.
Cost of Social Protection Plan
According to Odinga, the plan would cost Ksh9 billion monthly. It aimed to benefit 1.5 million households across Kenya.
Political Continuity
Earlier in May, Senator Beatrice Oyomo urged President Ruto to adopt Odinga’s stipend plan. Therefore, Oketch’s pledge reflects continuity of Odinga’s empowerment vision.
Oketch Salah’s initiative highlights youth empowerment through financial aid and tools. Ultimately, the programme aims to foster entrepreneurship, leadership, and social justice among Kenyan youths.
