President Ruto Announces Financial Support for 90,000 Youths
On-the-Job Training Programme
President William Ruto has announced that the government will financially support 90,000 youths to enhance skill development. Moreover, speaking in Eldoret on January 8, the Head of State revealed that the beneficiaries will join an on-the-job training programme.
The initiative will attach young people to master craftsmen and women, enabling expertise transfer in various trades. Additionally, each participant will receive a monthly stipend of Ksh6,000 during the training period.
The government will also cover certification costs and pay the master trainers to ensure smooth implementation. However, the President did not disclose the criteria for selecting beneficiaries or the exact commencement date of the programme. Consequently, many youths remain eager to learn how they will qualify for this opportunity.
Expanding Opportunities Through NYOTA Programme
Beyond the training initiative, President Ruto confirmed that the government will train 600,000 persons with disabilities. Furthermore, this effort will enable them to access procurement opportunities already reserved for their participation.
The President also revealed that 20,000 youths enrolled in the NYOTA programme will benefit from funded certification courses. This support aims to ease their transition into employment and strengthen their competitiveness in the job market. Already, the government has disbursed Ksh250 million to 9,500 young people across six counties under NYOTA.

Each beneficiary received Ksh22,000 to grow their enterprises, while an additional Ksh3,000 was deposited into NSSF savings accounts. Consequently, the programme has provided both financial support and long-term savings opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
President Ruto emphasized that all beneficiaries were selected on merit, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity. Moreover, he assured that no favoritism or bribery influenced the selection process, reinforcing transparency in government initiatives. Ultimately, the Head of State expressed optimism that these programmes will unlock the untapped potential of Kenya’s youth.
He highlighted opportunities in digital jobs, affordable housing projects, and other infrastructural ventures as key areas of growth. Together, the on-the-job training and NYOTA programme demonstrate the government’s commitment to empowering young people and building a skilled workforce.
