Raila’s Ex-Bodyguard Named Mombasa Security Advisor

Governor Nassir Announces Appointment
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir confirmed the appointment of Maurice Ogeta, Raila Odinga’s long-time bodyguard, on January 8. Moreover, the announcement followed the creation of new positions by the Mombasa County Public Service Board. Consequently, Ogeta will serve as Advisor, Security Affairs, bringing years of experience in the security sector.

Ogeta’s Experience and Role
Governor Nassir praised Ogeta’s extensive background in local, regional, and global security operations. Additionally, Ogeta served Raila Odinga for 18 years, protecting him during rallies and political events.

Known for his calm demeanor, Ogeta frequently faced dangerous situations, particularly during tense anti-government protests. Ultimately, his new role will focus on strengthening security strategies within Mombasa County.

Other Key Appointments
In the same statement, Governor Nassir appointed award-winning actor Ken Ambani as Advisor on Creative Arts. Moreover, Ambani’s expertise will help revive and grow Mombasa’s creative industry for the benefit of artists and youth.

The governor emphasized that both appointments aim to boost security and cultural development in the coastal county.

National Recognition and Future Expectations
During Raila Odinga’s burial in October, President William Ruto pledged a state job for Ogeta. However, the President has yet to formalize that appointment. Consequently, Ogeta’s new role in Mombasa ensures his continued service to the nation.

Residents expect his expertise to enhance safety and address pressing security challenges in the devolved unit.
