Miguna Declares 2027 Presidential Bid
Senior lawyer Miguna Miguna has officially announced that he will contest the presidency in 2027.
Meanwhile, the former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant made the declaration during a live TV47 interview on Wednesday night.
“I am going to vie for the presidency of the Republic of Kenya in 2027, and I am going to do it on a transformative vision,” Miguna said.
Furthermore, he emphasized that his agenda will be people-centred, guided by integrity and socialism, and will depart from current governance models.
“A Vision for the People”
Miguna described his plan as transformative, placing the interests of ordinary Kenyans at the heart of government policy.
In addition, he stated, “It is a vision that identifies the interest of the people of Kenya as the core and the foundation of moving the country forward.”

Race to State House Heating Up
As a result, Miguna joins a growing field of established politicians and fresh faces vying for State House. Analysts say the race is shaping up to be highly competitive.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already begun preparations for the 2027 polls. Officials describe 2026 as a critical year for finalizing voter registration and reviewing electoral procedures.
Moreover, civil society groups and political parties are engaging the commission to ensure transparency and credible elections.
ODM Yet to Decide on 2027 Strategy
Meanwhile, ODM leader Oburu Oginga said the party has not yet decided whether to field its own candidate or enter a coalition with the ruling UDA.
“If we go it alone, our presidential candidate will be the party leader,” Oburu said on December 31, 2025.
Also, ODM plans to make a formal decision before the end of 2026, setting the stage for early campaign maneuvering.
Ruto Gains Momentum Despite Discontent
Despite public discontent, the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition has celebrated recent by-election wins in November 2025.
Consequently, the victories are seen as a boost for President William Ruto’s political base, signaling that the race for State House will be intense.
