Natembeya Convoy Attacked in Kabuchai as Rivalry Escalates
Armed Youths Confront Governor’s Convoy
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya survived an attack on Saturday when armed youths confronted his convoy at Chwele Ward in Kabuchai, Bungoma County.
He directly accused National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula of coordinating the chaos, saying the confrontation followed weeks of rising hostility between their camps. Shortly after the clash, the same group stormed the home of Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga and caused extensive damage.
Gunmen Fire at Governor’s Vehicles
Viral videos showed shattered windscreens and battered vehicles in Natembeya’s convoy. The governor said gunmen fired at him several times as they tried to break up his rally.
While inspecting damage at Kalasinga’s residence, Natembeya criticised Wetang’ula, claiming the Speaker uses state officers and hired youths to intimidate opponents.
“This is primitive; it is not politics,” he said. “Your leader in the National Assembly sends goons to destroy an MP’s home simply because of political differences.”

Governor Says Attackers Wanted Him Dead
Natembeya insisted the shooters aimed at his life and warned that the incident highlights a deeper security crisis.
“During the rally, they fired live bullets from the Speaker’s compound. I almost lost my life,” he said. “If an MP is not safe in his own home, how can an ordinary Kenyan feel secure?”
He then challenged Wetang’ula to face him directly.
“If you want to show strength, meet me mundu kumundu. Stop hiding behind government machinery,” he said.
DAP-K Demands Immediate Action
The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) condemned the violence and pushed the police and IEBC to intervene without delay.
“Political violence has no place in this country,” the party wrote on X. “Governor Natembeya and leaders campaigning for MCA aspirant Eric Wekesa faced an attack in Kabuchai from goons linked to Speaker Wetang’ula. IEBC and NPS must act now.”
DAP-K also criticised the destruction of MP Kalasinga’s home and urged authorities to restore calm in the constituency.
