Kenyans “Occupy” Charlton Athletic Socials After Sichenje Signing

Charlton Athletic’s social media team has met Kenyan internet culture head-on.

The club recently signed Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje. Within hours, thousands of Kenyans swarmed the Addicks’ official pages.

Kenyans turned the comment sections into a comedy show. Many called it an “occupation.”

The “Terms and Conditions” Go Viral

Kenyans on X — famously known as #KOT, arrived with demands. They wrote them like official club rules.

Some of the funniest included:

  • Food rules: Fans warned Charlton not to feed Sichenje “snacks or Cerelac.” They demanded ugali and omena to keep his “African strength.”
  • Instant captaincy: Others insisted the defender must get the armband immediately. Some even demanded the “keys to the stadium.”
  • Constant welfare checks: The club’s admin received endless messages. Many asked if Sichenje had taken his “4 p.m. tea.”
  • League banter: Some fans told him to “punish” Manchester United. One viral comment even claimed Charlton played in the same league as Grimsby Town.

Kenyans Have Done This Before

The Charlton takeover did not come out of nowhere. Kenyan fans have built a reputation for online unity. They often rally behind local players abroad.

Two clubs know this story well:

Wolfsberger AC and Ryan Ogam
When striker Ryan Ogam moved to Austria, fans flooded Wolfsberger’s pages. They pushed the hashtag #FreeOgam after he missed matchday squads. The pressure grew loud. Ogam later thanked fans for the support.

Celta Vigo and Aldrine Kibet
Teenage midfielder Aldrine Kibet also sparked a similar storm in 2025. Fans camped in Celta Vigo’s comments. They demanded updates and minutes for the youngster. Kibet later said the club welcomed the attention.

Charlton Wins Big on Engagement

Charlton has enjoyed the numbers boost. Reports say the club has recorded record engagement since the announcement.

Head coach Nathan Jones has also backed the signing strongly. He described Sichenje as a “super athlete.” He praised his hunger and athleticism.

Sichenje will wear the number 28 shirt. He could also make his debut as early as tonight’s London derby against QPR.
