KNEC Launches E-Certificate Platform

The Kenya National Examinations Council officially launched its KNEC E-Certificate Platform, allowing former KCPE and KCSE candidates who sat exams between 1989 and 2025 to securely download digital copies of their certificates. Specifically, the platform is accessible at ecertificate.knec.ac.ke.

Furthermore, this system marks a massive shift toward full educational digitisation in Kenya, helping millions bypass long school clearance processes, withheld certificates and tedious physical queues at Mitihani House.

How to Download Your Certificate

The process is straightforward and fully online. Specifically, visit the official KNEC E-Certificate Platform and select “Applicant (Student/Alumni)” as your account type. Furthermore, provide your full name and a valid email address to receive a six-digit OTP to complete registration.

After registration, log in using your Index Number and examination year, then submit your National ID for identity verification. Once approved, pay Ksh1,200 via M-Pesa or a linked bank card. Consequently, the portal instantly generates a secure, digitally signed PDF certificate embedded with a blockchain-based verification hash.

Key Features Worth Knowing

Every downloaded certificate comes with tamper-proof security. Specifically, encrypted QR codes and blockchain signatures allow employers, universities and government bodies to verify authenticity in seconds.

Furthermore, downloaded certificates remain accessible on your dashboard for six months. Additionally, employers can register as a “Verifier Organisation” to conduct bulk verifications of up to 1,000 certificate records simultaneously.

Important Note

Electronic certificates complement rather than replace physical copies. Specifically, candidates must still retain physical certificates where traditionally required by institutions.
