Kakamega High Crowned Western Region Football Champions

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Kakamega High School’s Green Commandos defeated Musingu High School 2-0 after extra time to win the 2026 Western Region Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two boys’ football title.

The thrilling final took place at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi, Bungoma County.

The victory secured Kakamega High School a place at the KSSSA National Championships for the first time in seven years.

Tense Final Ends in Extra-Time Victory

Both teams produced a closely contested match throughout regular time. Neither side managed to score during the opening 90 minutes. However, Kakamega High found another gear in extra time.

The Green Commandos scored twice in the second half of extra time to seal the regional title. The victory ended Musingu High School’s hopes of lifting the championship.

Road to the Final

Kakamega High School reached the final after thrashing Kibabii High School 4-0 in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Musingu High School defeated Emusire High School 3-1 to book their place in the final. Both teams entered the showdown in impressive form.

National Championship Beckons

The regional triumph guarantees Kakamega High School a place at the upcoming KSSSA National Championships. The Green Commandos will now compete against Kenya’s best secondary school football teams.

Their qualification also marks a successful return to the national stage after a seven-year absence.

Archbishop Njenga Girls Also Qualify

In the girls’ competition, Archbishop Njenga Girls High School claimed the Western Region title. They defeated Butere Girls High School 2-1 in the final.

The victory also earned Archbishop Njenga Girls a place at the KSSSA National Championships.
