Multimedia University (MMU) Student Murder Suspect Surrenders to Police.

A university student suspected of murdering a fellow student at Multimedia University (MMU) has turned himself in. The suspect, a first-year electrical engineering student, surrendered to the police on Thursday night after several days on the run.
According to Nairobi Police Commander George Sedah, the suspect presented himself at the Sultan Hamud Police Station in Makueni County. He is believed to be behind the brutal killing of Sylvia Kemunto, a first-year student pursuing Mass Communication and Computer Science.
Kemunto’s body was discovered in a water tank on campus shortly after she was reported missing.

Suspect on the Run for Days Police say the suspect fled the scene shortly after the murder, which occurred last Monday. Investigators believe he escaped to his rural home in Makueni to evade arrest.
Following his surrender, a team of officers from Nairobi traveled to Sultan Hamud to escort him back to the city for questioning.
“We want to understand whether he acted alone and what his motivation was,” said Sedah.
How the Multimedia University (MMU) Case Unfolded
Kemunto’s disappearance started raising concern on Sunday, March 30. Her mother, Triza Kwamboka, who lives in Kawangware, Nairobi, became worried after being unable to reach her daughter by phone.
Earlier that day, Kwamboka had sent her upkeep money through a church elder. However, her daughter never confirmed receiving it. Concerned, she traveled to the university to check on her.
To her shock, she found out her daughter had not been seen for hours. The university confirmed her absence, prompting the mother to report the matter at Lang’ata Police Station.
Suspect Was Allegedly Pursuing the Victim
Kwamboka told police that her daughter had recently complained about a fellow student who was making unwanted advances. “She said she did not like him, and I told her to stand firm,” the mother said.
Investigations suggest Kemunto may have been killed in her hostel room. Her body was later dragged to the rooftop, where it was dumped inside a water tank.
To hide the crime, the killer allegedly tied the tank with a wire and placed a stone on top.
Witnesses Saw Suspicious Activity
On the day of her disappearance, Kemunto’s roommate had gone to church and left her alone. During that time, witnesses said the suspect visited her at around lunchtime.
Later, he was seen dragging a suitcase from her room to his room in a different block. It’s suspected the suitcase contains her body.
One witness reported seeing the suspect lie on the suitcase but did not suspect anything at the time. The suitcase was later seen in his room but disappeared by morning.
Discovery of the Body
Police launched investigations after Kemunto’s phone signal was traced to within the university compound near Ongata Rongai. Although the phone was off, its last known location prompted a full-scale search.
On Wednesday, a foul smell coming from Block E caught the attention of students and staff. The stench led them to a water tank on the rooftop.
Inside, Kemunto’s decomposing body was found. Police later moved the body to the mortuary. A post-mortem was scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
Multimedia University (MMU) and Police Response
Multimedia University (MMU) Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Geoffrey Kihara confirmed that police were handling the investigation.
Kemunto’s tragic death has reignited national concern over rising cases of violence against women. Human rights groups continue to push for stronger action to curb the trend.
