Autopsy Reveals Cause of Vincent Ayomo’s Death at Kitengela Rally
Government pathologists have confirmed that Vincent Ayomo died from a gunshot wound to the left eye. The 28-year-old succumbed during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Kitengela on February 15, 2026.
According to the autopsy, the bullet fractured his spinal cord and damaged his brain. It later exited through the back of his head, causing fatal injuries.
Ayomo, a mechanic and father, was reportedly shot while walking during the rally.
The event formed part of activities organised by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Leaders present included Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino. Other opposition figures also attended the rally.
Witnesses stated that police dispersed crowds using teargas and live ammunition. Consequently, chaos erupted as heavy rain pounded the area. One witness claimed Ayomo was walking peacefully when a stray bullet struck his eye.
Family Claims and Witness Accounts
Initially, Ayomo’s family faced delays during the post-mortem process at Nairobi Funeral Home. However, the autopsy findings confirmed their belief that police shot him.
Family members insisted he was returning from work to purchase spare parts. Furthermore, witnesses alleged police vehicles passed his body without offering assistance. These accounts have intensified public outrage over the incident.
Sifuna Condemns Police Action
On February 16, 2026, Edwin Sifuna issued a statement confirming Ayomo’s death. He accused police officers of using excessive force to disperse the rally. Moreover, he blamed William Ruto’s administration for alleged state violence.
He also noted that several attendees sustained injuries during the operation.
IPOA Launches Investigation
Meanwhile, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched a high-priority investigation.
IPOA Vice Chairperson Ann Mwangi confirmed deployment of a rapid response team to Kajiado County. She expressed concern over the reported loss of life and injuries.
Therefore, investigators will examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. As pressure mounts, Ayomo’s family now awaits accountability and justice.
