Eric Omondi Takes Lead in Lang’ata MP Race
Comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi now leads the Lang’ata MP race, according to a February 19, 2026 poll. Consequently, the political landscape in Lang’ata has shifted dramatically ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The survey, conducted by Politrack Africa, positions Omondi as the frontrunner among declared candidates.
Key Poll Results
If elections were held today;
- Omondi would secure 40.2 percent support.
- Hon. Abas Khalif of Orange Democratic Movement follows with 30.3 percent.
- Daniel Kipchirchir of United Democratic Alliance garners 12.2 percent.
- Virginia Githinji, an independent candidate, stands at 12.0 percent.
Additionally, 3.4 percent of voters remain undecided.
Notably, this marks a sharp turnaround from November 2025. At that time, a Mizani Africa poll showed Omondi trailing significantly.
The “Walk of Love” Effect
Analysts attribute Omondi’s surge to his high-profile “Walk of Love” charity campaign. Between February 10 and 14, 2026, he walked 486 kilometers from Nyayo National Stadium to Mama Ngina Waterfront.
The initiative aimed to fund a permanent Sisi Kwa Sisi Help and Rescue Centre. The proposed facility will include a medical clinic, two ambulances, and a free secondary school. Furthermore, it will feature a warehouse for community support supplies.
By Valentine’s Day, Omondi announced the campaign had surpassed its fundraising target. Supporters contributed through a “buy-a-kilometer” model, which boosted grassroots engagement.
Youth 47 Movement and 2027 Outlook
In January 2026, Omondi launched the Youth 47 Movement to empower young leaders across all counties. Consequently, his political profile has grown beyond Lang’ata.
However, the race remains competitive. Rival aspirants continue holding strategy meetings as 2027 approaches.
Although Omondi initially downplayed interest in the seat, he now says he is ready to answer the people’s call.
