Former Harambee Stars Coach Engin Fırat Dies at 55
The global football community is mourning the sudden death of Engin Fırat. The former coach of Harambee Stars passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026.
Reports indicate that the 55-year-old Turkish-German tactician suffered a fatal heart attack. The incident occurred while he was traveling through Istanbul Airport.
His passing shocked players, fans, and football administrators across several countries.
Sudden Medical Emergency During Travel
Fırat was traveling from Beirut to Adana in Turkey at the time. However, he suddenly collapsed while in transit at the airport.
Airport medical teams responded quickly and attempted to resuscitate him. Unfortunately, doctors could not revive the experienced football coach.
At the time of his death, Fırat served as head coach of Nejmeh SC. He had joined the Lebanese club shortly after leaving the Kenyan national team. Soon afterward, the club confirmed the tragic news in an emotional statement.
