NPS and NTSA Strengthen Road Safety Ahead of 2026 Easter Holiday
The National Police Service (NPS) and NTSA have launched a joint security and road safety operation ahead of the 2026 Easter holiday. Following discussions between IG Douglas Kanja and NTSA DG Nashon Kondiwa, authorities aim to reduce accidents and ensure public safety nationwide.
Key Road Safety Measures
Authorities have intensified traffic enforcement to curb violations that spike during holidays.
Firstly, police conduct mandatory alcoblow tests and speed checks to reduce drunk driving and overspeeding. Additionally, PSVs must adhere to carrying capacities and maintain valid licenses. Previously, authorities suspended operators failing safety audits.
Moreover, motorists traveling to Western and Nyanza are encouraged to use Nairobi-Suswa-Narok routes. Likewise, travelers to Central Kenya should consider Nairobi-Nyeri-Nyahururu roads to avoid congestion.
Furthermore, drivers are cautioned about potential flooding due to seasonal rains.
Enhanced Public Security
The multi-agency operation increases visibility across urban centers and high-risk locations.
Police have intensified patrols in malls, recreational spots, and crowded neighborhoods. Likewise, security has been heightened at churches and large public gatherings to prevent threats.
Airports, SGR stations, and border points are under enhanced screening. Additionally, undercover officers are deployed to preempt criminal activity before it occurs.
