Oga Obinna Spends KSh 10.1 Million on Vurugu Boxing Match

Kenyan media personality Oga Obinna revealed he spent KSh 10.1 million to organize the Vurugu Boxing Match. The event took place on April 4, 2026, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

Obinna admitted the investment came at a personal cost. He stated it left him with significant debts, saying,

“Ata nimebaki na madeni.”

Event Expenses and Planning

The funds covered logistics, production, and fight-night execution. Additionally, bringing in Tanzanian boxer Mandonga was considered but exceeded the budget.

The main bout featured Majembe versus Mbavu Destroyer. Majembe won via a technical knockout (TKO), earning a prize package valued at over KSh 2.5 million. This included KSh 1 million cash and a Toyota Noah.Obinna

Several prominent figures supported the match financially and operationally:

  • President William Ruto contributed KSh 4 million via Lang’ata MP Jalang’o.
  • Senator Oburu Odinga donated KSh 1 million.
  • Sponsors including Odibets and Speaker Moses Wetang’ula provided sound systems and branding.

Following the event, Nairobi official Geoffrey Mosiria alleged the match was scripted. Obinna strongly denied this claim.

Critics also questioned the distribution of the estimated KSh 25 million collected from tickets and well-wishers compared to the winner’s KSh 1 million cash prize.
