Government Announces KSh 200,000 Support for Utumishi Girls Families

 The Government of Kenya announced financial support for families affected by the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy. Consequently, each affected family will receive KSh 200,000 to help navigate the difficult period.

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura confirmed the intervention. Additionally, the government pledged to cover funeral and medical expenses linked to the tragedy.

The support package aims to ease both emotional and financial burdens.

KSh 200,000 Support Extended to Bereaved and Injured Families

The government will provide KSh 200,000 to each family that lost a loved one in the fire. Additionally, families of the seven students currently receiving treatment will receive the same amount.

Consequently, the funds will assist with medical, transport, and related expenses. Authorities also included the family of Mama Faith Koskei in the package.

She tragically died in a road accident while rushing to the school after hearing about the fire. Therefore, the government extended support to her family as part of the relief programme.

State Waives Funeral and Mortuary Costs

The government has committed to fully covering funeral expenses for the 16 students who died. Consequently, families will not shoulder burial-related costs.

Additionally, authorities have waived all mortuary fees connected to the victims. The intervention seeks to allow families to focus on grieving and healing. Moreover, government agencies continue coordinating logistical support.

Injured Students to Receive Free Medical Care

Students admitted to St. Joseph Hospital and Kenyatta National Hospital will benefit from the medical waiver.

Authorities have completed DNA identification for all victims. Consequently, families have received official results confirming the identities of their loved ones.
