Eric Omondi Freed on KSh 100K Bond in Milimani Court Case

On June 8, 2026, Milimani Law Courts released comedian and activist Eric Omondi on a KSh 100,000 personal bond. Consequently, the court made the ruling after he pleaded not guilty to traffic obstruction charges.

Additionally, the case will return for mention on July 2, 2026. The decision attracted significant public attention across Kenya.

Prosecution Details Traffic Obstruction Allegations

The prosecution charged Omondi under Section 58(c) of the Kenya Roads Act. Consequently, authorities alleged he unlawfully obstructed traffic on Kimathi Street in Nairobi.

Additionally, prosecutors stated the incident occurred during protest activities in the CBD. They further claimed Omondi offloaded 120 empty 10-litre jerricans from an Isuzu lorry.

Therefore, the state argued that the action disrupted free movement of vehicles.

Defence Team Rejects Charges in Court

The defence team, led by lawyer Danstan Omari and MP Babu Owino, opposed continued detention. Consequently, they argued that the jerricans served a peaceful and lawful purpose.

Additionally, they stated that Omondi intended to distribute them for water storage use. They insisted that no deliberate obstruction of traffic occurred on Kimathi Street.

Moreover, they argued that citywide protests already disrupted normal traffic flow. Therefore, they maintained that the charges lacked strong legal foundation.

The magistrate rejected the prosecution’s request to continue detaining Omondi. Consequently, the court granted him a KSh 100,000 personal bond. Additionally, it directed him to attend all future court appearances.

The matter will return for mention on July 2, 2026. Therefore, the case will proceed under continued judicial supervision.
