Harmonize and Nandy are among five entertainment figures and organisations fined by Tanzania’s arts regulator over alleged ethical and regulatory breaches.
Tanzania’s National Arts Council (BASATA) has fined the two Bongo Flava stars following separate disciplinary proceedings.
The council also sanctioned music video director Kennedy David Sanga, popularly known as Director Kenny, and two event organisers.
Together, the penalties amount to TSh19 million.
BASATA issued the decisions after investigating alleged breaches of artistic regulations, moral standards and licensing requirements.
Harmonize Fined Over ‘Kudos’ Video
BASATA fined Harmonize TSh5 million over his Kudos music video.
The council said the video failed to meet Tanzania’s moral standards and undermined the dignity of viewers.
It also cited provisions governing artistic activities in Tanzania.
As a result, BASATA ordered Harmonize to remove the video from his social media platforms.
He must also pay the fine within 14 days.
In addition, the council ordered him to stop engaging in artistic activities until he complies with the directives.
The regulator also said Harmonize had not submitted a defence or alternative explanation by the time it issued the decision.
Director Kenny, who directed the video, received a similar TSh5 million fine.
BASATA also ordered him to remove the video, pay within 14 days and suspend his artistic activities until he complies.
Nandy Fined Over Miss Universe Performance
Meanwhile, Nandy received a TSh3 million fine over her outfit during the Miss Universe Tanzania 2026 final in Dar es Salaam.
BASATA described the attire as indecent and disrespectful to viewers.
According to the council, Nandy admitted the violation and removed the relevant video from her social media platforms.
She has since paid the fine and received permission to continue her artistic activities under BASATA supervision.
The decision followed BASATA’s summons of Nandy, Harmonize, Director Kenny and other creative industry figures earlier this week.
Pageant Organisers Also Fined
BASATA also fined Millen Privé & Co. Lifestyle Limited TSh3 million.
The company organised Miss Universe Tanzania and faced action over the incident involving Nandy.
The regulator also issued the organiser with a warning over future compliance.
Separately, Avil Contractors Company Ltd received a TSh3 million fine.
BASATA identified the company as the organiser of Miss Grand Tanzania.
The council said the company failed to obtain the required BASATA permit before holding the pageant.
BASATA Warns Creative Industry
The latest decisions have put entertainment regulation back in the spotlight in Tanzania.
BASATA has urged artistes, producers and event organisers to follow the laws and regulations governing artistic activities.
The council has also stressed the need to observe Tanzania’s artistic guidelines and moral standards.
The sanctions come as Tanzania continues to regulate content, performances and events across its growing entertainment industry.
