The JSC is interviewing nine shortlisted candidates for the Chief Kadhi position.
The Judicial Service Commission will assess nine shortlisted candidates during a two-day recruitment exercise ending November 3.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has begun Chief Kadhi interviews, with nine shortlisted candidates seeking the office. The two-day exercise runs from November 2 to November 3.
In an update on its official X account, the commission said it would interview candidates to fill the position. The interviews will assess their suitability to lead Kenya’s Kadhi’s Courts.
Chief Kadhi interviews focus on court leadership
The Chief Kadhi heads courts that handle specific questions of Muslim law. Their jurisdiction covers personal status, marriage, divorce and inheritance. However, all parties must profess the Muslim faith and submit to the court’s jurisdiction.
The role therefore carries responsibility for administering Islamic law within those defined areas. The recruitment exercise seeks to fill the leadership office for this part of Kenya’s judicial system.
Meanwhile, the JSC is conducting the selection process under its constitutional mandate to facilitate judicial appointments. The commission also oversees the administration of the Judiciary.
The final candidates are expected to appear on November 3, bringing the interviews to a close. Afterward, the commission is expected to communicate the outcome and the next steps in the recruitment process.
