The Council of Governors (CoG) has urged technology firms and development partners to invest more in digital healthcare.
The council wants counties to use technology to improve health services and prevent maternal and newborn deaths.
The appeal came during the “Connect, Power, Heal” event in New York.
The event took place alongside the United Nations General Assembly.
It brought together county leaders, technology companies, development partners and health stakeholders.
Counties Push Digital Healthcare
CoG said digital health and telemedicine could expand access to specialist medical care.
These tools can also support clinical mentorship and improve collaboration between health facilities.
However, reliable electricity and internet connectivity remain essential for digital healthcare services.
Mombasa County showcased digital surgery at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The hospital has used Proximie technology during 87 surgical sessions.
The platform has also supported 143 hours of connected operating time.
Through the technology, specialists can collaborate remotely during surgical procedures.
CoG said such systems could help counties access specialist expertise beyond their local facilities.
$531 Million Maternal Health Plan
Meanwhile, the council presented a $531 million maternal and newborn health investment case.
The “Beyond Boundaries” initiative focuses on Intercounty Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response.
The proposal seeks international financing and partnerships to strengthen implementation across Kenya.
It aims to reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths through better surveillance and response systems.
Counties would also share information and coordinate responses to maternal and perinatal deaths.
The initiative operates under the Council of Governors and brings counties together around a shared approach.
Partners Urged to Support Counties
CoG said partnerships will remain central to expanding digital healthcare across all 47 counties.
Development agencies and technology companies could support connectivity, digital tools and specialist healthcare access.
County leaders also want stronger collaboration around maternal and newborn health programmes.
The council said sustained investment could strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to expertise.
For now, CoG is seeking partners to support both its digital health agenda and maternal health investment case.
Its wider goal remains reducing preventable deaths while improving healthcare outcomes across Kenya.
