Mizani Africa’s September 2026 survey puts Ruto at 38.7 per cent, ahead of Kalonzo’s 27.5 per cent and Sifuna’s 13.2 per cent as the 2027 election approaches.
President William Ruto has the highest support in Mizani Africa’s September 2026 presidential preference survey, with 38.7 per cent of respondents choosing him ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka places second at 27.5 per cent, while Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna ranks third with 13.2 per cent. Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i follows with 7.7 per cent.
The results capture respondents’ preferences as presidential hopefuls and political formations increase their mobilisation and consultations ahead of next year’s election. They are a snapshot of support at the time of the survey, rather than a determination of the eventual result.
Ruto Holds an 11.2-Point Lead
The figures give Ruto an 11.2-percentage-point advantage over Kalonzo, the nearest challenger in the survey. Kalonzo, in turn, leads Sifuna by 14.3 percentage points.
Although Ruto takes the largest share of stated preferences, his 38.7 per cent remains below half of the respondents surveyed. Each of the remaining candidates records less than five per cent, while five per cent of respondents are undecided.
The four leading names in the poll account for 87.1 per cent of responses. The balance is shared between the other candidates and respondents who have yet to settle on a preferred presidential contender.
Sifuna Steps Up Mobilisation
Sifuna’s third-place position comes as he intensifies his Linda Mwananchi mobilisation activities. In recent weeks, the Nairobi senator has publicly signalled his intention to challenge Ruto in the 2027 presidential contest.
He has also urged opposition leaders to cooperate, including Kalonzo and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Those calls form part of the political discussions taking place as leaders consider their approach to the next election.
Kalonzo has separately been holding consultations with opposition leaders. Political parties and movements are exploring possible arrangements ahead of the vote, alongside the mobilisation efforts of individual presidential hopefuls.
Preferences Ahead of the 2027 Vote
The survey places Ruto, Kalonzo, Sifuna and Matiang’i in that order at this stage of the race. It does not establish how voters will ultimately cast their ballots or what arrangements political leaders may reach before polling day.
The undecided share also distinguishes respondents who have not expressed a candidate preference from those already backing one of the contenders. Their eventual choices are not determined by these findings.
Kenya’s next General Election is scheduled for August 2027. Alongside the presidential contest, voters will choose Members of Parliament, governors, senators, women representatives and Members of County Assemblies. The presidential preference figures concern only one part of that wider election.
