Eunice Kuria tops a 190-player field at Royal Nairobi Golf Club to secure her first victory since taking up golf three years ago.

Eunice Kuria won the 2026 County Golf Classic Nairobi edition on Thursday, scoring 42 stableford points. The handicap 33 golfer topped a field of 190 participants at Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The retired banker secured her first tournament victory since taking up the sport three years ago. Her prize was a one-night stay for two at Oltukai Lodge in Amboseli, courtesy of title sponsor Eka Hotel.

The win followed a golfing trip to Vietnam a fortnight earlier. There, Kuria sharpened her swing at a 36-hole course in Ho Chi Minh City.

County Golf Classic winner credits playing partners

Kuria credited her fourball partners with helping her enjoy the round. She also praised her caddie for guiding her club selection and showing her the lines to follow.

She said she approached the tournament feeling relaxed, which helped her enjoy the game. In addition, she felt the course played well and her own golf had improved.

More frequent rounds have helped her develop her skills, and she now hopes to win more tournaments. However, her ultimate ambition in the sport remains making a hole-in-one.

Kuria also welcomed the organisation of the event, which promoted sustainable action on climate change. Stabex International and Stima Sacco supported the tournament as subsidiary partners alongside Eka Hotel.

Golf shapes Kuria’s retirement plans

A member of both Royal Nairobi and Nyali golf clubs, Kuria recently joined Nyali because she plans to retire at the coast. Following her retirement from banking, she intends to devote time to committee work at both clubs.

She said those roles would allow her to continue using her leadership skills. Meanwhile, golf has helped her stay fit and build connections with people who have broadened her outlook.

Kuria has travelled to more than 20 countries, including Vietnam and Malaysia. Whenever she travels abroad, she makes a point of finding a course to keep practising.

The mother of two now looks forward to enjoying her Amboseli prize and has already chosen her companion. Having visited Eka Hotel in Nairobi and Eldoret, she also welcomed the opportunity to try another destination.
