Magistrate Barbara Akinyi grants investigators 10 days to hold the four suspects at Gigiri Police Station.

A court has ordered a Kenyan actress and three other suspects to remain in custody in the Dorita Macharia murder investigation. The four will spend 10 days at Gigiri Police Station while detectives continue their inquiries.

During proceedings on Monday, November 2, the prosecution sought 15 days to complete investigations. However, Magistrate Barbara Akinyi granted a shorter period, noting that the probe remained at an early stage.

Macharia, 86, was found in a pool of blood on October 31, 2026. She had a deep cut on the left side of her neck. A postmortem examination had not yet taken place at the time of the proceedings.

Detectives told the court they still needed to retrieve CCTV footage from Loresho estate and record witness statements. They also planned to analyse fingerprints as part of the investigation.

In addition, investigators sought time to obtain mobile phone call data records for the four suspects. They intended to complete those steps before forwarding the investigation file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Concerns about possible interference with the investigation also informed the detention order. In particular, the court heard that releasing the suspects could allow contact with witnesses who had yet to record statements.
