NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 12 — American YouTube star iShowSpeed on Monday visited the Maasai Mara, extending his viral Kenya tour to one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations. Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the visit has significantly boosted Kenya’s global profile.

The stop at the world-famous reserve followed a whirlwind tour that saw Kenya trend globally on several social media platforms.

‘A Rare Platform to Tell Africa’s Story,’ Miano

Speaking on Sunday, Miano said hosting iShowSpeed offered Africa a rare chance to tell its own story. She noted that the focus was on culture, beauty and hospitality.

Additionally, she said Kenyans helped shape the influencer’s itinerary. As a result, the tour showcased the country’s people, landscapes and traditions.

Record-Breaking Online Engagement

Meanwhile, Speed’s visit delivered record online engagement. His livestreams from Nairobi National Park and other landmarks attracted more than 180,000 concurrent viewers.

At the same time, his YouTube subscriber count jumped by nearly 200,000 during a single broadcast.

Massive Crowds Force Police Escort in Nairobi

In Nairobi, large crowds followed Speed’s convoy through the city. Consequently, authorities deployed police escorts to control the swelling numbers of fans.

From Rugby Training to Matatu Rides

During his stay, the YouTube star trained with the Kenya Rugby team. He also met javelin champion Julius Yego.

In addition, Speed sampled traditional Kenyan dishes. He later toured the capital aboard a colourfully decorated matatu. These moments kept Kenya in the global spotlight.

According to tourism officials, the Maasai Mara leg is expected to further boost Kenya’s appeal. The focus is on wildlife, culture and adventure tourism.

Notably, the destination continues to attract Gen Z and millennial travellers.

“Kenya didn’t just show up — it broke the internet,” Miano said.

Overall, iShowSpeed’s Speed Does Africa tour spans 20 African countries with daily livestreams. However, officials say Kenya has generated the largest crowds and the loudest buzz so far.

They describe the visit as a major win for Kenya’s tourism marketing strategy.
