Russia Responds to Viral Video Allegations
The Russian government has broken its silence following global outrage over viral videos circulating online. Consequently, the clips allegedly involve a Russian man and several women from Kenya and Ghana.
The videos triggered sharp reactions across social media platforms in both countries. As a result, authorities in Kenya and Ghana launched formal investigations.
On Monday, February 16, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ghana acknowledged the reports. However, the embassy stopped short of confirming the man’s identity or nationality.
In its statement, the embassy noted media claims about unethical conduct involving African women. Additionally, it referenced allegations that the acts were recorded without consent.
Nevertheless, the embassy did not verify whether the individual is a Russian citizen. Instead, it emphasized awareness of the allegations currently under review.
How the Viral Videos Unfolded
The videos allegedly show a Caucasian man approaching women in public spaces. Specifically, the encounters reportedly occurred in Nairobi and Mombasa.
In the clips, the man initiates casual conversations in malls, streets, and supermarkets. Subsequently, he compliments the women and requests their phone numbers.
Soon after, he allegedly persuades them to visit his short-stay apartment. Most meetings reportedly occurred within hours of first contact.
Critically, the footage was allegedly filmed secretly and shared online. Therefore, the clips sparked outrage across Kenya, Ghana, and the wider African continent.
Kenyan Government Orders Urgent Action
Meanwhile, the Kenyan government ordered a coordinated cross-border investigation. Gender Cabinet Secretary Hanna Cheptumo condemned the alleged actions strongly.
Addressing the press, she described the incident as a grave constitutional violation. Furthermore, she directed security agencies to collaborate with international authorities.
“This act violates dignity, privacy, and national values,” Cheptumo stated.
She cited Articles 28 and 31 of Kenya’s Constitution.
Growing Calls for Accountability
Public pressure continues mounting as investigations progress. Ultimately, authorities aim to establish accountability and protect victims’ rights.
