Legal Petition Targets KU VC Wainaina’s Tenure

A new petition has been filed at the High Court seeking to compel Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Paul Kuria Wainaina to proceed on terminal leave. His term ends on January 26, 2026.

Court Declines Immediate Orders

However, the court declined to issue immediate orders.
Instead, it directed the applicants to serve the December 1 petition without delay.
Moreover, the court set the inter partes hearing for December 16, 2025.

Petitioners Claim the VC Undermines the Constitution

The petitioners, Elizabeth Chesang and Rosemary Wanjiru Gichuhi, argue that Prof. Wainaina made unconstitutional decisions in the last six months.
They cite the revocation of appointments of key office holders.
Furthermore, they warn that continued mismanagement could trigger a leadership crisis.

The court documents state that the alleged mismanagement may erode the university’s status.

Petitioners Seek Full Disclosure of Appointment Criteria

Through lawyer Odhiambo Ouma, the petitioners ask the court to compel the university to disclose criteria used for appointments and promotions.
Additionally, they argue that the VC used previous court orders to make major decisions late in his term.

VC Accused of Favoritism in Promotions

The petitioners further claim that the VC promoted staff related to him.
They argue that such actions breach constitutional values and demand urgent intervention.
