Kalonzo Musyoka urged supporters in Sori, Migori County, to carry forward Raila Odinga’s political vision.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka urges Raila Odinga’s supporters to defend his legacy and unite ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged the Luo community to sustain Raila Odinga’s Canaan dream following his death. Speaking in Sori, Migori County, he called for unity behind the opposition’s push for political change.
Kalonzo said Raila’s supporters had a duty to carry forward the ideals the former prime minister championed. He presented the journey to Canaan as an unfinished political mission that surviving leaders and supporters must pursue.
He also accused some politicians of claiming friendship with the late ODM leader while abandoning his principles. Meanwhile, he recalled their 15-year political partnership, during which he repeatedly backed Raila’s presidential ambitions.
Canaan dream and Raila’s reform legacy
Kalonzo credited Raila with a central role in securing the 2010 Constitution and establishing devolution. He pointed to Migori, Homa Bay and Machakos as counties that benefited from those reforms.
He also urged supporters to protect that legacy rather than abandon the constitutional principles Raila had championed. For Kalonzo, continuing the political journey meant defending constitutionalism, county government and human rights.
Turning to young people, the Wiper leader pledged to pursue Raila’s vision of a country that respects their rights. He said that vision included protecting them from unlawful arrests.
In that context, he cited blogger Albert Ojwang’s death in police custody in June 2025. Kalonzo used the case to criticise Kenya’s human rights record and reaffirm his commitment to those freedoms.
Opposition unity ahead of 2027
Kalonzo also renewed his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of corruption and neglecting living-cost pressures. He cited rising fuel prices, financial difficulties at universities and claims that teachers had gone unpaid.
To illustrate his argument, he revisited Raila’s metaphor of a tired donkey carrying an excessive burden. Kalonzo said the donkey had now collapsed, arguing that economic conditions had worsened further.
Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, he called on opposition leaders and supporters to unite. He claimed Ruto had lost influence nationwide and led supporters in chants demanding a single presidential term.
Kalonzo said he was working with other opposition leaders to bring Kenyans together behind their movement. He linked that effort to his pledge to preserve Raila’s political vision.
